Okay, I am in SC tonight (until Friday), sore and tired. Yesterday was my birthday. Here is the update: Friday evening got home from Nashville (plane was delayed, so I was late getting in). After arriving at the airport, I stopped to see my sweet daughter at the airport (she works at US AIR). Then, we went to dinner with her to O'Charley's. Ended up getting home about 11 pm. Saturday, husband and I drove to Mammoth Cave. Spent the night in a crappy Hampton Inn in Horse Cave. The place wasn't really too dirty, but it was kind of yucky. On Sunday morning, when we got up to take a shower, there was pubic hair on the soap holder and the drain in the tub wouldn't work. We ended up going to a room down the hall to take a shower! YUCK! We went to Mammoth Cave on Sunday for the Wild Cave tour. It was a 6 -6 1/2 hour "tour". I made it three hours while my husband and son made it all the way. There were 14 people in our group and I was the only one who was not able to finish. I have to say that it was the most physically difficult thing I have ever done in my life! Crawling on my hands and knees for about 1000 feet, belly crawls for 201 feet (over jagged rocks in some places)and getting my 43 inch butt through one hole (snake pit) that was definately not made for a 43 inch anything! In fact, if a person is greater than 42 inches in diameter anywhere, they should not go through the area. My son was pulling me, and my husband was bracing my feet so I could attempt to dislodge my large stomach and butt. However, I ended up having to exhale, wiggle, concentrate, and meditate in order to wiggle out of the first hole. The second, the "bare hole" was a mere 9 inches tall to wiggle through. Okay, I was almost freaking at this time. I made it, though! Then, the last and straw breaking task was the 201 foot belly crawl! I was hypoglycemic, dehydrated, exhausted, people were behind me and in front of me and only by the grace of God was I able to get through the place that was appropriately named, "hell hole". I knew when I got out of the place, that at the first time I could get the heck out of the cave, I would take it! After getting out of the hell hole, I was able to be given the option to stop the tour. A guide walked me to a set of steps (180) after a half mile walk to them. The tour guide said at the top of the steps there was a dead bolt on the door, that I should go out and wait for the bus. I asked the tour guide if he could wait until I made it up the steps (since I was doubting if I actually could), and he did. Okay, the sunshine never looked so wonderful! I still had to walk up more steps after getting out of the cave and waited under a covered area (alone, in a state park, not a soul around) for about 15 minutes before a bus came to get me. It was a really scary thing to do, being alone. I will never, ever, consider something like that again! Husband and son finished but they had nothing to eat for hours, I am sure that the used all of their energy stores, and they were not only famished, but exhausted when they got out of the cave. Drove home that night and found out that I had bruises on my arms, legs, ribs, and muscles that I had learned about in school but never had used them in my life! I am still sore, but I know that starting tomorrow, I will exercise on a regular basis. I am proud that I got through as many hours as I did and know that I have it in me somewhere to be more physical, I just need to get off my 43 inch butt to do it! Came to SC this morning and looked at houses / condos with my real estate person. Will look again on Thursday evening. That's all for now.....
